    19th Public Affairs Detachment

FARYAB PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Villagers conducted repairs on irrigation canals to improve agricultural productivity in Ketow-i Lang village, Qeysar District, June 4-9.

The irrigation canals, damaged in the 1990s and neglected until now, were not delivering water to fields in the Owimast area. The villagers requested support to improve crop productivity, according to U.S. special forces team members.

Owimast is reliant on water to cultivate legal cash crops, and improving access will increase profitability of the crops. The increased yield will be sold in local markets, tying in villagers from Tegab-i Herak with Qeysar District and through the Ministry of Agriculture and government of Afghanistan.

Small projects are a tangible indicator of effective security, and the increase in confidence will encourage displaced villagers to return to their homes and to farming, said a special operations forces team member.
