BAGHDAD – Four hundred twenty seven officers and non-commissioned officers from the Iraqi Army, Iraqi Ministry of Defense and Kurdistan Regional Government graduated from intelligence specialty courses as part of Basic Non-commissioned Officer, Basic Officer and Senior Officer Seminar programs at the Intelligence and Military Security School at Camp Taji, June 16.
These 3-month specialty courses include counter-intelligence, geospatial intelligence, intelligence analysis, and recon and surveillance. These courses follow the 1-month basic course, also held at Camp Taji. Iraqi instructors have been teaching the courses independently for three years.
After graduation these soldiers will go to the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance battalions in various jobs and units within the Joint Headquarters M2 (Intelligence), The Technical Equipment Directorate, the Directorate General for Intelligence and Security and the Ministry of Interior intelligence organizations, said U.S. Army Col. Terry Guild, director, Iraq Training and Advising Mission, Ministry of Defense-Intel. The graduates will take the skills and tradecraft that they have learned in the school and apply it at their units, he said.
Some graduates will continue training in advanced intelligence skills at the school.
“It is just great training. The schoolhouse has come a long way in the last four years,” said Guild. “The leadership has done a great job while making sure there is no downfall of the training standards.”
