SAN DIEGO – Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command conducted its inaugural Theater ASW Course-Theater Augmentation course from April 16-17, at Fleet ASW Training Center San Diego, with 32 Reserve officers in attendance from 13 Submarine Force Reserve Component commands supporting Theater ASW Commanders worldwide.
The TAC-TA course is an integral part of the training pipeline for theater ASW battle watch captains and watch officers. The course provides TASWCs with theater watch standers that can surge forward to provide seamless integration.
The initial class utilized active duty and civilian instructors with Reserve NMAWC instructors monitoring the progress and techniques. Participant feedback during the two-day course provided clear indications that training objectives were met and that attendees received a measureable improvement of TASW professional knowledge. TAC-TA enables Reserve TASWC personnel to attain qualifications to support operations with their gaining commands.
“This is fantastic training and I wish that we could do this more often,” said SFRC TAC-TA training coordinator Cmdr. Jim Woodard. “The TAC-TA course has brought together a lot of information that I can now use to be an effective TASWC watch stander.”
The next TAC-TA class is scheduled for early July at NMAWC detachment Norfolk. NR NMAWC, utilizing qualified and designated instructors, will augment the active NMAWC component upon the execution of all follow-on training.
