JOPLIN, Mo. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today awarded a $538,498 contract to Intelligent Investments Inc. of Neosha to build temporary storm shelters at the tornado-damaged Franklin Technology Center campus at Fourth and Grand streets in Joplin.
Intelligent Investments is a U.S. Small Business Administration-designated service-disabled, veteran-owned small business.
The Corps is managing the construction of temporary critical structures in Joplin as part of the federal government’s unified national response following the tornado that struck the city May 22. These facilities are for use while longer-term repairs are made or more permanent replacement structures are built.
The critical public facilities mission, assigned by FEMA, can include constructing temporary fire stations, schools and medical facilities.
