FORT BELVOIR, Va. -- Anyone who has ever struggled to find just the right map, chart or geospatial product can take advantage of a Defense Logistics Agency event in August that can help users navigate efficiently to just the right map, chart or geospatial information they need.
The DLA Map Catalog Team, along with DLA Aviation Mapping Customer Operations, will host the annual DLA Mapping Users Group Seminar at Fort Hood, Texas, Aug. 24-25.
Daniel Jacobs, DLA Map Catalog program manager, said the event is designed to make map ordering more efficient for military and government agency personnel. Experts from DLA Logistics Information Service and DLA Aviation will guide participants through the entire map ordering process, from creating a map account to using the catalog and tracking orders to their destination. Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend briefings from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and Army Geospatial Center.
"Typical users are pilots, quartermasters, engineers, navigators and intelligence personnel from across the military services," Jacobs said.
Other users Jacobs noted include the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Secret Service, National Security Agency and Defense Intelligence Agency. More than half a million maps are ordered monthly.
More information on this hands-on training opportunity and the map catalog is available at http://logisticsinformationservice.dla.mil/mapcatalog/. Details about the seminar can be found through the “Training” option on the catalog home page’s navigation menu.
