Marines paint with a trigger at Paintball Charleston

Story by Lance Cpl. Erin Tansey

Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. - A group of Marines from Parris Island put their maneuver warfare skills to the test by conducting training operations Aug. 19 at Paintball Charleston.

“The point of the exercise was to get Marines who are non-deployable into a semi-combat environment,” said Cpl. Robert Powell, a graphics reproduction specialist at Combat Camera.

During the training event, Marines not only moved through the fields in teams, they also documented the exercise, which is something the Marines of Combat Camera would be expected to do in a combat environment.

“That was part of the goal, getting our people out there shooting and getting photographs about what we were doing,” Powell added.

Combat Camera spent the afternoon going to a variety of fields with teams. In the end, the training event accomplished the main goal of fostering unity, Powell said.

“I think it all went really well - everyone seems a bit more relaxed and they get along better,” he said. “We’re planning another training event at the same field.”
