Highlighting Cherry Point’s warriors.
WHAT IS YOUR JOB?
I help the other Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Marines protect the air field and resolve any aircraft emergencies as well as respond to structural alarms in the hangars and other buildings on base.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF YOUR JOB?
My favorite part of my job helping the people we interact with. It is rewarding in itself know we are helping people everyday just by staying diligent and aware.
WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR JOB?
The hardest part of the job is also another thing I love about it and that is the knowledge we have to know about the aircraft. Every day I learn more and more about my job. We have to know a lot of vital information about aircraft and with every new aircraft that comes to the base that is more information I need to know.
HOW DOES YOUR JOB SUPPORT THE MISSION OF 2ND MAW AND MCAS CHERRY POINT?
We help keep the mission readiness up for the air field. We provide that ease point for pilots and their commands. We make sure all aircraft and pilots are taken care of if there is an emergency during their flight and they have to make a hot landing or something of the sort. We are on the prowl 24/7. Whether there are flights going on or not we are here on standby. We do not get holidays we are either working here or at home resting waiting for our next shift of duty.
HOW DOES YOUR JOB IN GARRISON DIFFER FROM YOUR JOB IN THE FIELD?
The big difference is when we deploy we are still doing the same thing with additional job titles. I will have to also go out if there is a downed aircraft to assist in the extraction of a pilot and provide first aid if needed.
