    Combined Endeavor

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany - The Azerbaijani Armed Forces are participating in Combined Endeavor for the ninth year alongside more than 35 North American and European nations in Grafenwoehr, Germany, Sept. 8–22.

Combined Endeavor is a multi-nation exercise involving nearly 40 NATO, Partnership for Peace and strategic security partners, and is designed to increase interoperability and communications processes between the participating nations.

“The organizers and staff that have made this possible have done a great job getting everything to run smoothly,” said Capt. Elkhan Aliyeav, communications officer. “This is my second year at Combined Endeavor, and the experience, of both learning new technologies and interacting with everyone, has been great.”

This year, the Azerbaijani military members are focusing on increasing their network interoperability with other nations, as well as increasing their cyber defense capability with the help of the Cyber Endeavor seminar.

The Cyber Endeavor event is designed to strengthen the participating nations cyber defense programs to ensure their networks are protected from malicious attacks, like those encountered by Estonia in 2007, and Georgia in 2010.

“We have already participated in six days of the seminar, and I already feel that my ability and skills in information technology has been improved,” Aliyeav said.

Part of that improvement comes from the ability to work closely with other military forces and learn different techniques and methods to achieve a goal.

“The different militaries here have been very helpful and offer words of advice whenever anyone here has a difficulty with a program, or when they have an easier way to achieve the same result,” Aliyeav said. This has been a good experience so far, and I can only imagine what else I will learn during the exercise.”
