MOSUL, Iraq (September 13, 2006) –Getting the best dental care a Soldier can get in combat zone is as easy as smiling, a Soldier just has to go to the 296th Brigade Support Battalion located on Forward Operating Base Marez, Mosul, Iraq and see the dentist.
Capt. Christopher Rowe, dentist, 296th BSB, and Specialist Brian Toath, his trusted dental assistance, are providing Soldiers with the best dental care they have to offer, without jeopardizing mission capabilities.
"My goal is for a patient not to have any pain at all," said Rowe, a native of Chicago, IL. "First a general exam is conducted while interviewing the patient, we search for cavities and any other dental problem the patient may have."
According to Rowe, since they arrived in theater they have seen approximately 25 patients including civilians with some type dental problems. Once diagnosed, each patient is consulted on what procedure will be done to correct the problem and how to prevent further problems.
Part of their daily routine also includes making sure that every instrument is clean and sterile. When a patient sits in the chair they do not have to be concerned with cleanliness. Each instrument is cleaned by placing them in an "Auto Clave" or sterilizer after every use.
"We have a stress free environment, our hours are flexible from 9am to 12 pm and 2pm to 4pm daily," said Rowe. "We also have after hour operations for any emergency situation that should arise."
Thanks to these trained dental professionals, Soldiers will see a lot more smiles on the FOB
