    FORT BELVOIR, Va. -- Navy Rear Adm. Raymond English, the director of the Defense Logistics Agency Joint Reserve Force ends his 36-year Navy career, Oct. 1.

    English will return to civilian employment as the director of transportation for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program’s Naval Reactors Laboratory Field Office.

    English graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1975 and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. After graduating from the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Ga., he served on the headquarters staff of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

    English began his Navy Reserve career after leaving active duty in 1985. Following an initial assignment with the Defense Contract Administration Region-Cleveland Unit, he commanded four units: Naval Weapons Station Earle Detachment 505 in Moundsville, W.Va.; Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 9 Detachment C and Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 9 in Columbus, Ohio; Naval Reserve Fleet Industrial Supply Center Norfolk Headquarters 107 in Norfolk, Va.; and Navy Supply Support Battalion 1 in Phoenix.

    English’s previous staff assignments include the Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio; assistant chief of staff for readiness and assistant chief of staff for mission effectiveness, at the Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Force in Williamsburg, Va.; and assistant director for plans and policy, at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C. Prior to becoming director of DLA Joint Reserve Force, he served as the assistant director of operations at U.S. Transportation Command at Scott AFB, Ill.

    English was recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Storm from April to July 1991 and stationed in Rota, Spain as the operations officer with Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 9. In 2004, he was again recalled to active duty for Operation Iraqi Freedom as group commander of Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Force Forward Alpha in Kuwait and Iraq.

    English’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.
