VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Los Angeles (South Central) native and Freemont High School class of 2000 graduate, Tomas Perez was promoted to the rank of Marine Corps staff sergeant during a ceremony with fellow Marines of Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia, Oct. 12.

Perez’ promotion to staff sergeant is a special step in his career progression. Perez is now considered a staff non commissioned officer, who are considered special advisors to the officers they work with.

According to the executive officer of the unit, Lt. Col. Dan Thoele, Staff Sgt. Tomas Perez is one of the most hard-working Marines he has ever met and this promotion is well deserved. Thoele also mentioned that a staff non-commissioned rank is the achievement that all enlisted Marines strive for and junior officers look upon for their expertise and guidance.

Perez entered active military service in August 2001, and is currently serving as the supply and administration chief at the logistics and support section of MCSCG in Virginia Beach, Va.
Over the course of 10 years, he has accounted for the purchase of more than 10 million dollars in equipment in support of Marines and sailors participating in various operations throughout the globe to include Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Georgia Deployment Program – International Security Assistance Force.

Prior to checking into MCSCG, Perez served as a supply and administration chief for First Medical Battalion in Camp Pendleton, Calif., from March 2005 until June 2008.

Perez lives in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. His wife Alma and their four children currently reside in Los Angeles. The Perez family is expecting their fifth child in December 2011.

His parents Tomas and Estela still reside in the Los Angeles (south Central) area.
