FORT BELVOIR, Va. - Defense Logistics Agency Energy Europe and Africa hosted the 7th annual NATO Navies Fuel Exchange Agreement meeting in Wiesbaden, Germany, Oct. 4-6. Attendees included representatives from the United Kingdom, Spain, Turkey, Poland, France and Greece.
“This was a first-time representation for the Hellenic Navy, and we look forward to their continued and enduring participation in the FEA program,” said Tony Glaster, chief of international agreements for DLA Energy Europe and Africa.
“We often operate together in exercises and contingency operations with NATO partners, and the fuel support we provide to each other through our FEAs is a collaboration that is operationally, logistically, administratively and fiscally advantageous in getting fuel to our navies where and when they need it,” DLA Energy Europe and Africa Commander Army Col. Robert Weaver said.
The primary focus and purpose of the meeting was more than just the opportunity to meet with other NATO navy representatives, Weaver said. He emphasized that it was a chance to have DLA Energy International Agreements personnel available to discuss existing topics and new issues relating to all aspects of the FEAs, as well as to conduct the FEA account reconciliation process.
Traditionally, the annual meeting includes several briefings intended to inform and promote FEA discussions on shared operations and objectives as NATO partners. This year included briefings from the region’s combatant commands – U.S. Africa Command and U.S. European Command, followed by briefings provided by the regional DLA Energy team regarding operations, inventory, fuel quality and laboratories.
