FORT BELVOIR, Va. - A contract specialist in the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Subsistence supply chain spends much of his free time educating, inspiring, and transforming current and future government leaders.
Hoang Ho, who completed the DLA intern program at DLA Troop Support in July, is the development committee leader for the Philadelphia chapter of Young Government Leaders. In that role, Ho is responsible for organizing many local networking events and professional development activities.
YGL is a professional organization of men and women who are early in their government careers. Current national membership is more than 2,000 federal employees from about 435 departments and agencies.
“Our organization is committed to serving as a coordinated voice for the current and future generations of young government leaders by providing a community of leadership through professional development activities, networking opportunities, social events, seminars, fellowships, and scholarships,” Ho said.
The local group conducts seminars on topics such as resume building, credit reporting, and continuous process improvement, Lean Six Sigma white belt training, Ho said. Members also volunteer time to a variety of outreach opportunities throughout the city.
Ho credits working with such a diverse group of young leaders as a benefit to being a member of YGL.
“Being in this organization provides me with an opportunity to network and build lasting relationships with fellow Troop Support employees as well as with others from many government agencies,” he said. “Having Troop Support employees as members benefits YGL because we share new initiatives and broad work experiences that impact both the warfighter and Troop Support. We focus on spotting commonalities in our work roles to help members gain greater perspective in their careers.”
Yvonne Poplawski, chief of the supply support division in DLA Troop Support’s Medical supply chain, said she is impressed by Ho’s dedication to YGL and his position as a leader in the federal government. Poplawski met Ho through the Federal Managers Association.
“He has demonstrated exceptional networking effort and a true commitment to rise through the ranks of DLA by inspiring young entrepreneurs to join the federal government workforce,” she said.
