VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Hammond, Ind., native Scott M. Benninghoff was promoted to the rank of Marine Corps major during a ceremony with fellow Marines aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Va., Nov. 2.
Benninghoff, who graduated from Donald E. Gavit High School in 1997 and from Northwestern University in 2001, is currently serving as the logistics officer for Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group in Virginia Beach, Va.
Since being commissioned in June 2001, he has provided logistical support to more than 20,000 Marines in support of various operations throughout the globe to include Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
Benninghoff lives in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia along with his wife Rebekah and their two daughters, Diana, who is 4-years-old, and Cara, who is 20-months-old.
His father Martin Benninghoff still resides in Hammond, Indiana area and his mother Denise Benninghoff resides in Steger, Ill.
Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group is a unit in the Marine Corps that coordinates, manages, executes, and evaluates United States Marine Corps Security Cooperation programs and activities, to include assessment, planning, related education and training, and advisor support to ensure unity of effort in building Partner Nation Security Forces capacity and capability in order to facilitate USMC and regional Marine Forces component support to combatant commanders security cooperation objectives.
