MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Anthrax the band has produced brutal heavy metal for more than 30 years, and continued the tradition in front of a huge crowd of fans during a performance at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Nov. 4.

The band, currently touring in support of their new album, Worship Music, performed an awe-inspiring show for the massive audience of fans, including Marines, during the recent concert.

Metal bands Death Angel and Testament also played during the concert, opening the show for Anthrax.

In a solemn interview conducted on the band’s tour bus just before the Nov. 4 concert, the metal icons pledged their support of the armed forces.

“It’s gratifying to know that the noise that we make is inspiring (Marines) and getting you guys through your days, and it’s a really good feeling,” said Rob Caggiano, guitarist for Anthrax. “It feels good when you know you are connecting; that’s the whole point of making music.”

Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladonna said he lives in Watertown, N.Y., near a military installation and interacts with service members nearby when he plays music there.

He said it’s always an honor to visit with the service members and connect with them through the heavy, sometimes inspiring, music.

“It’s so cool just to interact with them, and they’re all so excited to be out just to hang and be a part of the evening,” Belladonna said.

Members of Anthrax, including Caggiano and Belladonna, said they had veterans in their families who have served.

“My father was in the Navy,” Belladonna said. “I remember I used to wear his Navy top out. My wife’s father flew jets, too.”

Caggiano also related to Belladonna’s family history.

“My grandfather was in World War II,” Caggiano, said.

Caggiano also said he has a very close friend who currently serves in the Army and he personally stays in touch and in tune with what service members are doing, and what they face on a daily basis. In September, Anthrax played a special show commemorating Americans in uniform, and the event memorialized those who served during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on American soil.

Additionally, the band offered free admission during the September show to pledge their support of those in uniform. Venues like Myrtle Beach’s House of Blues and Jacksonville’s Hooligan’s Pub, host events year-round featuring bands like Anthrax – giving service members an opportunity to relieve stress, connect with music, and see famous artists in person.

Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune also hosts acts several times a year, including artists like The Lt. Dan Band.
