PAKTYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Every service member passes milestones during their military career.
U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Robert Lane, a Provincial Reconstruction Team Paktya vehicle operator from San Antonio, reached one of them when he re-enlisted at Forward Operating Base Gardez, Nov. 19.
During his first six-year enlistment, Lane was deployed more than 975 days, including two tours in Iraq and his current tour in Paktya province.
“I love the fact that I get paid to do a job I love and be in the Air Force at the same time,” said Lane. “I can’t imagine my life outside the Air Force.”
Lane re-enlisted for another term of four years, and said he plans on making the Air Force a career.
“After this enlistment I’ll have been on active duty for 11 years,” Lane said. “It doesn’t make sense to not make it a career.”
Lane enjoys driving, even in his off-duty time back home.
“I’m licensed to drive more than 20 different vehicles in the military,” Lane said. “Through my job and the deployments, I’ve driven in four different countries on various missions, which is cool.”
Presiding over Lane’s re-enlistment was U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Cammie Quinn, PRT-Paktya public affairs officer from Lubbock, Texas.
“I’m honored to take part in enhancing Senior Airman Lane's military career,” Quinn said. “Not only is he hard working with a great attitude, he's from Texas, too! What more could you ask for from an airman?”
