    Defense Contract Management Agency

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Defense Contract Management Agency personnel here recently wrapped up a care package drive for civilian and military agency employees currently deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to Ken Friedman, DCMA Huntington Beach Management Support Office chief, the overarching goal of the endeavor was to “boost morale, encourage communication between the staff and deployed personnel, and to express our sincerest gratitude for service to the DCMA organization and country.”

Julianne De Caro, DCMA Workforce Recruitment Program summer hire, headed the event and organized all facets of the collection. She was responsible for retrieving deployed addresses for personnel, communicating with deployed staff members to determine needs, setting up a collection drop-off site, packing items and ensuring they made it to the specified deployed location.

“The whole experience was a great opportunity for me,” said De Caro. “It was rewarding to help out deployed military and civilian personnel. I also gained some event and program planning skills I know I will be able to use in the future.”

De Caro also created a bulletin board in the main Huntington Beach office lobby to display photos, emails, cards and messages sent to the office from deployed personnel. In the center of the board a letter from a deployed civilian reads, “First and foremost I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful goodies you all provided for me. Every one of those items has been very helpful. Not just to me but also to my team.”

A message from an Air Force captain is also displayed. It reads, “Thanks so much to you all for the care packages sent out this way. It’s a great morale boost for not only me, but all my DCMA colleagues out here, that the CMO personnel have us in their thoughts. We’ll really enjoy all the great stuff you sent here. God bless, and thanks so much again.”

In all, DCMA Huntington Beach provided care packages for 10 military and civilian individuals. “The overall program was a huge success and the support was overwhelming,” said Friedman. “It’s always important to know loved ones back home are thinking about you while you’re deployed.” For more information about the DCMA Huntington Beach care package program, contact Ken Friedman at (714) 372-1809.
