PAKTYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The Paktya provincial government inaugurated a new Afghan Uniformed Police headquarters and school during an Afghan government outreach mission to Jaji district, Nov 28.
Paktya deputy governor Abdul Rahman Mangal presided over the opening ceremonies alongside fellow Afghan government officials and Jaji community leaders.
“It is only through local support that Jaji will be able to further advance in development and security within Paktya province,” Mangal said.
This mission was unlike many other government outreach missions of its kind that typically revolve around a public shura and lunch. It did include these traditions with local tribal elders; however the dual ribbon cuttings added a special touch, signifying the Afghan government’s commitment to bringing vital resources to the remote area.
Tribal elders capitalized on the opportunity to publicly share their concerns, many of whom praised the Afghan government assistance their district had received.
Security and structural development were key topics discussed by the Afghan government representatives, along with support for the Afghan Peace and Reconciliation Program.
“We have a new APRP office in Gardez that works alongside the Provincial Peace Council,” Mangal said. “We invite those against peace to sit with our team to discuss their grievances and help them into the peace process.”
