JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. - Soldiers with the 2-17 Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, and their families gathered together to honor their fellow soldiers during an awards and promotions ceremony here Dec. 1.
The award ceremony was a way to honor soldiers with the 2-17 FA for their exceptional performance while training at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif.
During the ceremony Lt. Col. Kolin Bernardoni, commander of the 2-17 FA, presented 84 soldiers with Army Achievement Medals, 43 soldiers with Certificates of Achievement, eight soldiers with a Battalion Coin, and promoted 18 soldiers. Following the ceremony, Bernardoni congratulated and praised the soldiers of 2-17 FA for their hard work and dedication while at the NTC.
Soldiers with the 2-17 FA welcomed the praise and were proud of their hard work.
“It felt good to be recognized for the work I did during NTC,” said Pfc. Daniel Brown, who was honored with a Certificate of Achievement. “It really shows that the battalion cares about what we are doing.”
The awardees were not the only ones who felt pride while receiving their rewards.
“It feels good to see my soldiers get noticed and presented awards for exceeding the standards and going beyond the call of duty,” said 1st Sgt. Michael Villela, who serves as the first sergeant of A Battery, 2-17 FA.
While only a handful of soldiers were given awards, the success of the soldiers was the result of the leadership provided within the 2-17 FA.
“Our leaders prepared us and pushed us for excellence everyday during the training,” said Brown, who serves as a truck driver with B Battery, 2-17 FA. “I am very confident with the leadership within my unit and look forward to deploying with them in the future.”
