FOB KALSU, Iraq – Residents from Abu Gharaq, a sub-district of Al-Hillah, a town in the southern Babil province, received much needed help from the local government in the form of two generators Oct. 20.
After receiving the equipment from Multi-National Division-Baghdad units, the government of the town met and determined what area was most in need of the power generation; they then formed a team to deliver the generators to the townspeople and install them at the designated locations.
"It is great to see the local council leaders addressing the needs of the people," said Lt. Col. Richard Muraski, commander, Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
One of the generators will provide electricity to 100 families, while the second generator will power water pumps that can distribute clean water to more than 400 families.
It is important the government take care of its citizens to make sure that they do not lose faith of the new democracy in Iraq and to show it is not just another form of the old government, said Imad Left, Hillah mayor. The generators are just a small example of what the new government is capable of and demonstrates its commitment to the citizens of Hillah.
