    II Marine Expeditionary Force

CAMP DWYER, Afghanistan - The 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), in partnership with Regimental Combat Team 5 and the 2nd Marine Air Wing (FWD), hosted various Marine general officers as they toured the Regional Command Southwest area of operation, Dec. 24-25.

Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr.; Lt. Gen. George F. Flynn, Director of J-7, Joint Staff; Lt. Gen. Dennis J. Hejlik, commander of United States Marine Corps Forces Command, commanding general, Fleet Marine Force Atlantic, commander of USMC Bases Atlantic, commander of USMC Forces Europe; Lt. Gen. John M. Paxton, commanding general, II Marine Expeditionary Force and commander, USMC Forces-Africa; Maj. Gen. Raymond C. Fox, commanding general of Training and Education Command; and Maj. Gen. Angela Salinas, director of Manpower Management Division, spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day traveling around Regional Command Southwest in order to wish the Marines and Sailors in support of International Security Assistance Forces a merry Christmas and happy New Year.

While aboard Camp Dwyer, Dec. 24, Dunford awarded two 2nd MLG (FWD) Marines, Sgt. Tyler Higgins, of Reno, and Cpl. Robert Benbow, of Corona, Calif., the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for meritorious service while forward deployed.

As part of a separate tour, Salinas awarded Lance Cpl. Son Pham, of Houston, a NAM for his dedication and steadfast support to the combat disbursing detachment aboard Camp Dwyer.

The top officers also toured supply and maintenance facilities in order to gauge the 2nd MLG (FWD)’s progress in retrograde operations. As the leading logistics organization in Regional Command Southwest, the MLG has recovered nearly $21 million worth of gear and equipment in RC (SW).

Brig. Gen. Michael Dana, commanding general of the 2nd MLG (FWD), offered a frank assessment of his unit’s progress, leading Dunford to note, “It’s because of [logistics Marines] that we can be expeditionary.”
