    III Marine Expeditionary Force

CAMP FOSTER, Japan - The spirit of the holidays was evident as Marines with Marine Air Support Squadron 2 waited to be admitted into the Oyama Metro Restaurant in Ginowan City Dec. 21. Christmas party music filtered in from the dining room, where food sat on a buffet table.

The Christmas party was conducted to increase camaraderie and allow Marines to get together and kick off their Christmas, said Lt. Col. Alison J. MacBain, the commanding officer of MASS-2.

Among the commotion, there were card games, trivia and a talent show. Marines performing in the talent show competed for prizes that included gift cards and a video game system.

“Squadron commanders have the tough job of planning for all the groups at the venue,” said MacBain. “We tried to plan it so that everyone had something to do.”

Many Marines participated in the trivia challenge and the talent show. The buffet provided by the Oyama Metro Restaurant had the largest draw of the night.

“It is nice to hang around coworkers in this relaxed mood,” said Lance Cpl. Madison K. Cabuag, a wireman with Communications and Electronics Company, MASS-2.

This was the first year that MASS-2 held their Christmas party in town.

Previous years were mostly at Marine Corps Community Services buildings, MacBain said.

According to Duane Burk, the family readiness officer of MASS-2, Santa Claus was also present at the party and handed out gifts to the children belonging to Marines of MASS-2 and posed for pictures.

After Santa had left and the talent show was over, there was a tree lighting to conclude the evening’s events and kick-off the Christmas season.

The tree decorated by the children of the Marines also had gifts underneath the tree for them, said Burk.

With the conclusion of the MASS-2 Christmas party, the Marines start the Christmas season on a happy note on the island of Okinawa.
