FORT BRAGG, N.C. - The new construction of a child development center on Fort Bragg and a family readiness group center on Pope Field will serve as a welcome addition to military families.

The new CDC will be located at the new Warrior Transition Battalion campus.

The WTB campus is located between Tolson Youth Activities Center and Albritton Middle School off of Normandy Drive.

“The WTB campus sits on approximately 16 acres of land,” said Robert Fleming, a master planner for the Directorate of Public Works. “The new CDC is going to serve the WTB folks.”

According to Fleming, the child care area is about 1,500 square feet and will contain the latest facilities.

“The CDC will contain two activity rooms. The outdoor planning area includes a basketball court and net, a rubber matted playground set, a tricycle track and a shaded area," Fleming said.

The facilities will be able to accommodate the demands of the WTB campus.

“The CDC will be able to hold 44 people, including staff and children,” Fleming said.

The WTB campus and CDC are slated to complete construction in mid-March.

Pope Field will be expanding services to the soldiers and families in the area. Building B-236, better known as the old Air Force Officer’s Club, will be renovated to become Pope’s new FRG center.

“Renovation is slated to begin Feb. 1,” said Scott Boulton, an architect for DPW. “The project will involve major renovation worth approximately $1.8 million.”

According to Dennis Abell, the project management branch chief for the DPW, the project will renovate about 10,000 square feet of the facility and provide much needed upgrades to the structure.

“The remodel and repair of the facility is to allow the structure to function as a FRG center, including a dedicated area for [kids on-site],” Abell said.

Boulton said the KoS area will serve as an hourly basis for child daycare for parents attending one of the meeting rooms.

Renovation of the facility is slated to be completed at the end of the year.

Abell said the renovation is expected to be finished in November of this year.
