CAMP SURANAREE, Thailand – Flight surgeon trainees from the Royal Thai Air Force visited a U.S. Marine Corps medical field clinic at the Wing 1 flight line here Feb. 12 during Exercise Cobra Gold 2012.

Navy flight surgeons gave the trainees a tour of the clinic, answered questions, and gave demonstrations of the tools and equipment used in a field environment.

“We want to give them a glimpse of what our medical setup would be like during a deployment,” said Navy Lt. Ky Dorsey, a flight surgeon with Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. “It’s almost like a hospital setup in that the lower ranks are taking care of the patients, then presenting to the flight surgeons.”

The three relatively small rooms held only three beds, but the clinic was fully stocked and self-sufficient.

“All of the equipment is amazing for such a small clinic,” said Dr. Napaon Chantarapitak, a flight surgeon trainee with the Royal Thai Air Force.

The clinic’s staff opened crates and bags full of equipment, answered questions and provided demonstrations of their tools for over an hour.

The U.S. sailors had many questions for their Thai counterparts, comparing pilot fitness standards and ways of accomplishing their medical missions.

The Navy medical personnel are here to provide medical support for participants of Cobra Gold 2012.

Cobra Gold 2012 is the thirty-first iteration of the multinational, joint exercise held to enhance interoperability with participating nations and to advance security throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
