CAMP MARMAL, Afghanistan - The commander of Regional Command North, Maj. Gen. Markus Kneip, awarded the Bronze Cross of Honour of the Bundeswehr to U.S. Navy Lt. Jared Hooper in a ceremony Feb. 18.
The award is usually reserved for members of the German military; however, Hooper received the medal for his honorable service with the German navy providing support to the European Union Naval Force Somalia – Operation Atalanta mission based in Djibouti.
Hooper displayed his technical competence on the P-3C Orion, an aircraft commonly used by the U.S. Navy. Prior to serving at Camp Marmal in Afghanistan. Hooper participated in a German-American exchange program in Nordholz, Germany for the maritime patrol aircraft while serving with the 3rd Naval Aviation Wing “Graf Zeppelin."
