    82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - On Feb. 2, outgoing XVIII Airborne Corps Command Sgt. Maj. Earl L. Rice visited the 82nd Sustainment Brigade to speak to senior non-commissioned officers. During his visit, Rice reviewed the Hall of Heroes, a hall dedicated to the memory of members of the 82nd Sustainment Brigade who gave their lives. While speaking to the NCOs of the 82nd Sustainment Brigade, Rice emphasized the importance of instilling good leadership skills in the next generation.

"CSM Rice focused on how the NCO Corps is truly the backbone of the Army,” said Sgt. Maj. Carolyn Y. Donaldson, of the 125th Adjutant General Postal Detachment, 82nd Sustainment Brigade. “We must continue to live up to our responsibilities of setting and enforcing the standard as well as providing an environment and resources that are conducive to attaining those goals,” she said.

As the outgoing CSM for the XVIII Airborne Corps, having an opportunity to see Rice speak was significant. “CSM Rice’s visit reminds us that as members of the XVIII Airborne Corps, we are part of an elite force that has played a significant role in supporting and defending our great nation,” said Donaldson.

Throughout his speech, Rice reiterated that NCOs must lead from the front and continue to provide leadership examples to junior soldiers. “As a senior noncommissioned officer, I believe I can influence the next generation by setting the example and enforcing standards,” said Donaldson. “I also believe I can make a positive impact on soldiers by teaching, coaching and mentoring them to strive for excellence, embrace the Army Corps Values and always live up to the words of the NCO Creed and Warrior Ethos,” she said.

At the end of his speech, Rice was presented a plaque for his many years of exceptional leadership and his willingness and ability to lead from the front and set the standard.
