JOINT EXPEDITIONARY BASE LITTLE CREEK - FORT STORY, Va. - Longtime Montello, Wis., resident Marine Staff Sgt. Jonathan P. Locy was presented the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal during a ceremony at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story, Va., March 2.

Locy was presented this award for meritorious service while serving as a radio operator, First Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), First Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), from November 2009 to May 2010, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Throughout this combat deployment, Locy was crucial in the exponential growth of ANGLICO from a 59-man platoon detachment to a company-sized element of 135 Marines and sailors in less than 60 days. He was the leading element in the furnishing of tactical communication equipment and supplies; ensuring the company was able to operate upon arrival into the combat theater. Additionally, he concurrently maintained support of three supporting arms liaison teams conducting combat operations in Task Force Leatherneck and Task Force Helmand.

In addition to supporting the teams, the Montello Junior and Senior High School class of 2002 graduate conducted missions ranging from high value target raids with Task Force 196, British Special Air Service to Operation Kundee Lahra, a multi-day covert observation post over-watching logistics supply routes.

The Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal is an award that is presented to members of the United States Naval Service who distinguish themselves through outstanding meritorious achievement, while serving in any capacity of heroic or meritorious achievement. To merit this award, the acts or services must be accomplished or performed in a manner above that normally expected and sufficient to distinguish the individual above those performing similar services.

Since enlisting in 2002, Locy has deployed three times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and once to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also deployed to New Orleans, Louisiana with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Katrina Hurricane Relief in October 2005.

Locy initially enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 2002. He is currently serving as a radio chief for the Coordination, Liaison and Assessment Team at Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group in Virginia Beach, Va.

His parents, Jim and Jean Locy, still reside in the Montello, Wis., area.

He lives in the Virginia Beach area of Virginia along with his wife Maleah, who is originally from Temecula, Calif., and their two daughters, Maleah and Mallory.

Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group is a unit in the Marine Corps that coordinates, manages, executes, and evaluates United States Marine Corps Security Cooperation programs and activities, to include assessment, planning, related education and training, and adviser support to ensure unity of effort in building Partner Nation Security Forces capacity and capability in order to facilitate USMC and regional Marine Forces component support to combatant commanders security cooperation objectives.
