    112th EMT course

CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait-Deployed soldiers and sailors stationed at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, participated in a mandatory refresher course for emergency medical technicians (EMT)-Basic.

The National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians mandates that EMTs complete a refresher course and skills practical exam.

For deployed soldiers this is difficult to maintain.

“Often meaning these soldiers may lose their license while deployed,” said Staff Sgt. Brandon Fletcher of the 268th Military Police Company from Ripley, Tenn.

This could not have been done if it was not for the help of Holmes Community College in Mississippi. They sponsored the class allowing the deployed soldiers and sailors to renew their licenses that would have expired if not provided.

The class was a 24-hour course over five days that covered topics such as airway management, trauma situations, and hazardous materials.

Holmes Community College provided not only the educational backing, but the accreditation as well, all at no cost to the United States Army or the students.

Those who participated in the course came from diverse military backgrounds. If it were not for this course, Petty Officer Tremblay with the 2515th Naval Air Ambulance Detachment, would have lost her certification. She is a crew chief that flies on a helicopter ambulance.

“This course was great and helped me maintain my certification for the Navy,” said Petty Officer Tremblay. “I am an additional trained hand for the flight medics, helping them out during missions.”

This course was also beneficial for National Guardsmen and women.

Cpl. Erikson of the 1-94 Cavalry from Minnesota said, “It was great to have a civilian agency to sponsor a program like this. Most of these people would not have gotten this opportunity for this course if it were not for Holmes Community College.”

When these soldiers return to their jobs back home, they will not have to worry about losing their license.

The course helped not only the military, but the civilian sector as soldiers and sailors were able to sharpen their EMT skills.

On behalf of the 112th Military Police Battalion from Canton, Mississippi, we would like to thank Holmes Community College for their generosity.
