CAMP MARMAL, Afghanistan - Maj. Gen. Daniel Allyn, commander of Combined Joint Task Force-1/ Regional Command-East and the 1st Cavalry Division, visited soldiers from the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade in northern Afghanistan March 17.
During his visit, he presented 1st Air Cavalry Brigade soldiers with awards and coins for their efforts in support of Operation Enduring Freedom this past year.
Allyn praised the air cavalry soldiers for continuing the legacy that was established by previous generations of "First Team" troopers in combat.
“There’s an aircraft with a ‘first team’ patch flying around almost every corner of this country,” said Allyn, in reference to the fact that the 1st ACB is the only aviation brigade operating in four of the five primary regional commands.
“The soldiers of the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade should be extremely proud of their accomplishments this past year, just as I am,” said Allyn.
The 1st Air Cavalry Brigade is the only brigade-sized element from the 1st Cavalry Division that has deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Allyn, who will relinquish command of the division in the coming months, is slated to take over as commander of the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, N.C.
