FORWARD OPERATING BASE ECHO, Iraq – Seven Paratroopers of Military Transition Team 0810 represented the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, in the Danish Contingency March in Diwaniyah Dec. 9.
Seven Spartan Paratroopers completed the 25.2 kilometer march with 113 participants representing the countries of the United States, Mongolia, Latvia, Ukraine, Romania, El Salvador, Denmark, Lithuania, Czechoslovakia, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Poland.
Master Sgt. Thomas Ballard, originally from Aberdeen, Miss, was the first American to finish, placing fourth overall with a time of 2 hours and 54 seconds.
Lt. Col. Stephen Hughes, Capt. Richard Fenner, Capt. Pace Dukenfield, Sgt. 1st Class David Lawson, Sgt. 1st Class Cary Wallum and Sgt. Jobeth Lambao also completed the march.
The Danish Ambassador to Iraq presented awards to winners.
The first march first took place in Cypress in 1967.
