FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – On a cool December morning, Col. Michael X. Garrett, commander, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, welcomed paratroopers, sailors, airmen, civilians, contractors and Soldiers to the grand opening of the new Post Exchange here Dec. 10.
"A PX means a lot to all deployed, "said Garrett. "The PX brings nice things someone needs, but brings us back home momentarily. We all know the PX back at home station, like at Fort Richardson, Alaska. It keeps us linked back to where we are from and reminds of home."
During his remarks at the grand opening, Garrett also recognized the efforts of the Army and Air Force Army Exchange Service and 4th BCT personnel who coordinated the building and opening of the base's new PX.
Up to now, occupants at FOB Kalsu didn't have a PX. The previous unit used a Soldier-run PX. When the "Spartan" Brigade moved in, that facility was closed.
