CAMP HENRY, South Korea – Gumi Cha Hospital’s international clinic held a "Memorandum of Understanding" plaque hanging ceremony March 27 to publicly promise a long-term relationship with the U.S. Army.

Soldiers from the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and 65th Medical Brigade joined in the ceremony to unveil the placard.

“Gumi Cha Hospital, by this placard, has committed themselves to a partnership of health care with U.S. forces and our dependents,” said Col. Jonathan G. Leong, 19th ESC command surgeon. “We are here to recognize that and support them.”

Gumi Cha Hospital is the primary medical center in Area IV that offers a variety of medical services for U.S. soldiers and is covered under TRICARE.

“Gumi Cha Hospital offers both outpatients and inpatients care as well as emergency service,” said Michael Choe, Gumi Cha Hospital’s director of international clinic and emergency department. “We have many patients coming in from both Camp Carroll, Camp Walker and foreigners in the Gumi area.”

Prior to the ceremony, the U.S. soldier attendees were briefed by Choe on Gumi Cha Hospital’s history and its current capabilities.

After the plaque hanging ceremony ended, a group of U.S. soldiers toured the main facilities in the hospital including the emergency center and magnetic resonance imaging center while Choe explained about each center’s functions and availabilities.

“I’m so excited to know more about the hospital and our long-term relationship, because its expansion of services and facilities benefits our family members and service members here in Area IV, more than any other medical facility,” said Col. Rafael De Jesus, 65th Medical Brigade commander.

Gumi Cha Hospital’s international clinic has assisted U.S. soldiers and their dependents with various medical services since 2004.

“So far, we have had a very good relationship with the U.S. Army as well as local foreigners,” said Choe. “And I expect that in the future, there will also be a stronger relationship and service cares provided to the people who are in need in this area.”
