FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. – Soldiers of the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade celebrated the activation of the ‘Dauntless’ brigade by participating in a weeklong competition, March 30 through April 5.
“This week is all about coming together to make a difference, to work as a team and inspire change for the better,” said Col. Frank Rangel, 4th MEB commander.
The 4th Annual Dauntless Week consisted of 17 events with winners selected to represent the brigade at the 1st Infantry Division "Victory Week," slated June 11 through 14.
Along with event winners competing at the division level, the 4th MEB battalion with the highest score receives the coveted Dauntless Shield for one year.
The competition began with a golf scramble at Piney Hills Golf Course and an early lead by the 193rd Brigade Support Battalion who won the event.
There were six events April 2, including kickball, softball, flag football, combat wrestling, basketball and weight lifting, held at various locations across the installation.
The remaining 10 events were completed, April 3, resulting in an overall tie between 94th Engineer Battalion and 5th Engineer Battalion.
On April 4, both battalion commanders and their company commanders competed for the title of Dauntless Week champion by pushing a Humvee 150 meters for the fastest time.
The 5th Engineer Battalion was announced the 2012 Dauntless Week champs by less than half a second.
Rangel presented the Dauntless Shield of Excellence to Lt. Col. Chris McGowan and Sgt. Maj. William Bennett for safekeeping until next year’s games.
This is the second consecutive Dauntless Week win by 5th 5th Engineer Battalion.
“I am tremendously proud of the Fighter team and the pride they showed through their disciplined effort and never quit attitude on the Dauntless fields of friendly strife,” said McGowan. “The competitions were a great opportunity for each battalion, as well as the brigade as a whole, to build esprit de corps and teamwork.”
Dauntless Week concluded with the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade formal ball held on the evening of April 5, at Nutter Field House.
