FORT BLISS, Texas - Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment conducted an air assault raid in a simulated village called Waigali.
“They had to rescue the village elder who had been held captive by a Taliban operative,” said Lt. Col. Kevin Admiral, Battalion Commander for 1-36th Infantry Regiment.
Each company rotates to the simulated village in an air assault raid during Iron Focus. The scenario rarely changes but the company’s leadership who patrols and secures the area has the freedom to conduct mission essential training. It helps to better prepare the soldiers on how to understand the terrain and culture of Afghanistan.
“This is a multi-echelon training event which challenges my battalion staff in synchronizing the fires, intelligence and operations. As well as in the company level with the infantry on the ground and the Strykers,” said Admiral.
The air assault raid gave the “Spartans” the experience to ride in a Chinook. Before takeoff the “Spartans” went through an hour of training loading and unloading their personnel and how to properly secure the landing zone for the arrival and take off of the Chinooks.
At the end of each training cycle, the company comes together and conducts an after action review. This is where the key leaders in the operation learn from their mistakes and adds value to the success of the mission.
