FORT DRUM, N.Y. - Delta “Darkhorse” Company, 210th Brigade Support Battalion received a new commander as Capt. Stephen Lahr took the reins from Capt. Ricky Grant in a ceremony at the 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment motorpool, May 11.
Delta company, a forward support company, is assigned to support the 1-89 CAV and recently returned from a training rotation at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La. Prior to that Grant led the company during several field and situational training exercises. Grant will go on to his second command at Alpha Company, 210th BSB.
According to Grant, commanding an FSC is exceptionally challenging, especially when supporting a cavalry unit.
“Horses run faster,” Grant said. “The squadron is always training – either to go to the field or when they are in the field. And no matter which troop goes out, we always go out to support them.”
Currently, 1-89 CAV “Wolverines” are preparing for a rotation to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif.
“I’m excited to take command of the unit now,” said Lahr, a native of Helena, Mont. “It’s a perfect time to step in as the unit is preparing to go to NTC and later on, Afghanistan.”
The Wolverines are currently scheduled to deploy with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
