MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif.— Marine Corps Community Services specialist may be a small group of Marines, but they have a huge job to do. The Marines behind the scenes all the way from ordering of merchandise to stocking shelves are known as MCCS specialists.
The MCCSS community is one of the smallest military occupational specialties in the Marine Corps. This MOS has approximately 150 Marines.
“These Marines train in all facets of business to prepare for the job, to include business management, customer service and proper receiving of merchandise,” said Master Sgt. George Page, MCCS Specialist and Harrison Township, Mich., native. “Being an MCCS Marine requires a high level of maturity.”
The Marines must maintain a high level of professionalism and be responsible enough to work independently.
These Marines also have a high deployment overseas tempo primarily because of how small the MOS community is. Marines receive orders to go to locations that take them away from families and home for long periods of time.
“In a deployed environment we have sergeants that are taking a 20-foot container, sometimes two or three of them, filling it with product, and going out on resupply convoys,” said Page. “[Once at] a forward operating base, Marines come over and buy things that they can’t buy through the regular supply system.”
While most Marines are aware of MCCS aboard the air station, very few truly know the services available to them. MCCS takes pride in providing excellent customer service. For more information about MCCS and services provided visit the website at www.mccsmiramar.com
