CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait - More than 300 attendees paid tribute to the fallen service members from each branch of the military at the Memorial Day Observance at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, May 27.
Current service members and civilians attended “Memorial Day: We Will Never Forget” to honor and remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of the United States.
“Memorial Day is traditionally one of the most solemn and patriotic days for Americans as we honor those who gave their lives in service to our nation,” said Brig. Gen. Karen E. LeDoux, Third Army/ARCENT director of logistics and commanding general for Army Material Command Southwest Asia and Independence.
The audience paid their respects to their fallen comrades of not only the current war in Afghanistan but men and women throughout the history of the U.S.
“Today we recognize more than two centuries of men and women, who through their service and sacrifice, transformed the ideals of liberty, freedom, equality, freedom of speech worldwide and democracy,” said LeDoux, who went on to mention that the preservation of their sacrifice is paramount on this national holiday.
Camp Arifjan’s Memorial Day celebration, which also included a “Troop Splash” pool party and a 5K, displayed the Army’s definitive ability to honor the past while transitioning for tomorrow.
