BURNET, Texas – Soldiers from 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, and 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, braved the fire, barbed wire and a host of other obstacles during the Texas Spartan Sprint at Reveille Peak Ranch here, May 19-20.
The event is an obstacle course race designed to test resilience, strength, stamina, quick decision-making skills and the ability to laugh in the face of adversity, according to the Spartan Race website.
The race was about four miles long and challenged competitors to more than 20 obstacles.
The “Steel Tigers” took fourth out of 367 teams and Pfc. Darius Pitman of the “Regulars” placed seventh overall out of more than 4,500 participants.
Two “Highlander” participants, Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Livingston and Spc. Talon Meeks, both from 1st Bn., 77th Armor Regt., completed the race twice.
The Spartan Race events concept was developed by seven ultra athletes and a Royal Marine. Their main goal is to get people off the couch, throw them in the mud and introduce them to one tough endurance event day that will be the adrenalin rush of their lives.
