EL PASO, Texas – Thousands of music lovers gathered in downtown El Paso to listen and dance to 38 bands for an all day music festival on May 26, 2012.

Splendid Sun Production from Austin, Texas organized the second annual Neon Desert Music Festival, which drew more than 13,000 people this year.

The festival stretched through several blocks of downtown with five different performance stages, which allowed patrons to pick and choose the band they wanted to see. The people willing to fight the heat were able to get within shouting distance to some of the performers.

The performers came from all over the world to entertain the enthusiastic crowd. The Pinker Tones came from Barcelona, Spain, La Vida Boheme from Caracas, Venezuela and The Twelves from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Neon Desert included more than 10 bands from El Paso and seven bands from our neighboring country, Mexico.

The most anticipated performance was from headliner and closing act, Moby, a DJ who is world famous for his electronica and techno style music. Moby entertained the enthusiastic crowd of thousands with his energy pumping music.

The festival offered a discount for the people serving in the military and Cpt. Tom O’Brien, assigned to 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, took advantage on Memorial Day weekend.

“I came to the music festival for the live music, atmosphere and to be outdoors,” said O’Brien. “I just moved here from Fort Hood and I am surprised to see all of the inter-cultural events here.”

The popularity of electronic dance, a music style fused with techno, rock and funk has grown within the younger community.

Throughout the 15 hours festival, there was plenty of loud music, cold beer and delicious food to keep everyone occupied and entertained.
