BURBANK, Calif. – The United States Army Chief of Staff met with executives and entertainers to inform and discuss new ways to support Army, veterans and military families during a visit to NBC Universal Studios, Calif., June 11, 2012.

Executives used this visit as an opportunity to inform the Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Raymond T. Odierno on how the entertainment industry is working to build and strengthen our communities by employing Veterans and Family members.

After touring the Universal grounds and receiving a glimpse of the movie and television industries inter-workings, NBC executive Steven Dunning held a forum along with producers, writers and actors to explain the ‘Got Your Six’ campaign.

The GYS campaign, which launched on May 10, 2012, brings multiple resources together with the intention of promoting veterans as civic assets and leaders, and serving as a catalyst for veteran reintegration.

The idea to pull all these resources together originated from a group of individuals made up from Hollywood studios, television networks, talent agencies and guilds. “Got Your Six″ joins forces with the First Lady Michelle Obama, U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes, and other established nonprofits geared toward supporting America’s Military.

“I think ‘Got Your Six’ is a really great idea,” said Rita Beal, an Army disabled veteran and wife of an active duty Soldier. “Finally someone had the vision to pool all of these ‘valid’ nonprofit organizations under one umbrella for Veterans as well as assist communities in their connection with Veterans.”

In order to help set military veterans up for success in civilian life, the “Got Your 6” campaign focuses on the six pillars of reintegration: Jobs, Education, Health, Housing, Family, & Leadership.

“I have been a Military Spouse over the course of four deployments,” said Maria Brown, military spouse and daughter of a retired Soldier of the famed 82nd Airborne Division. “This type of support changes the whole outlook for those young men and women defending our freedoms everyday. It just feels good to know that the people that make-up this country are being proactive about supporting us instead of being reactive. I really feel like they are serious about having our back.”
