SAVANNAH, Ga. – Soldiers at Fort Stewart, Ga., will benefit from a variety of outpatient services at the new $10.1 million North Troop Medical Clinic recently completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District. Along with physical therapy, the clinic includes primary care physicians, pharmacy, radiology, behavioral health, optometry, and dental.
“We are honored to provide this state-of-the-art facility which has the capacity to serve 4500-7500 active duty soldiers,” said Troy Funk, resident engineer, Savannah District. “It is a great example of the Corps’ commitment to ‘build strong’ so that our soldiers have access to the finest healthcare facilities available.”
Brasfield and Gorie, LLC of Birmingham, Ala., constructed the 39,298 square-foot facility which is located in the newly built 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team complex completed by the Savannah District in June 2011. The clinic is the last component of the $306 million complex which supports the 4th IBCT’s daily operational need by providing everything from company operations facilities and motor pools to a physical fitness center, barracks and a dining facility.
The Savannah District completed the major components of the complex in June 2011 in time for the 4th IBCT’s return from a yearlong deployment to Iraq. Other completed facilities within the complex include a Combined Brigade/Battalion headquarters building, dining facility, six company operations facilities with tactical maintenance facilities,20 barracks buildings, and a 80,000 square-foot physical fitness center.
Like all Army construction, the clinic incorporates environmentally friendly features, such as natural landscaping, low-odor paint and carpets, energy efficient lighting, and mechanical systems. This “green” building will be certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver, in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council standards.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District manages and oversees a multi-billion dollar military construction program at 11 Army and Air Force installations in Georgia and North Carolina.
