RAF MILDENHALL, England – Beginning Aug. 1, RAF Mildenhall will initiate the new Installation Access Control System.
The IACS uses technology to check and validate ID credentials at installation entry control points. This system helps to increase base security by not only assisting in the prevention of unauthorized access to the base but also by detecting attempts to gain entry to the base with the use of a forged, invalid, or unauthorized documents.
“The IACS will enhance installation access control by providing an additional layer of security above the traditional method of manual credential checks,” said Senior Airman Tina Flores, 100th Security Forces Squadron pass and registration office.
IACS also provides the capability to maintain an automated historical record of personnel who have accessed U.S. Air Forces in Europe installations, receive immediate notification when a barred individual attempts to enter the installation, as well as support Force Protection Condition measures related to installation access control.
“IACS will ensure that the highest level of accountability and security is provided to the installation and its members on a daily basis,” said Staff Sgt. Ryan Heath, 100th Security Forces Pass and Registration non-commissioned officer in charge. “IACS will provide security forces the ability to more efficiently detect fraudulent ID's and allow only authorized personnel gain access to the installation.”
The IACS will be standardized throughout USAFE as mandated by the Director of Security Forces Head Quarters, USAFE. This will allow all base access credentials to be shared throughout all military installations in Europe.
It is required that all airmen and their dependents, 10-years-old and older, Department of Defense civilians, Ministry of Defence employees, and anyone needing authorized access to the installation have to have their ID scanned into the IACS to be able enter the base.
According to Heath currently, only 67 percent of RAF Mildenhall has been registered on the IACS.
Anyone trying to gain entry to the base without being entered into the IACS will be turned away or directed to the visitor control center, where they will be given a temporary pass onto the base if needed.
Members can get their ID scanned into the IACS either at temporary registration site at the Bob Hope Center or at the pass and registration office in building 438.
The IACS office is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and can be reached at DSN 314-238-3193.
