    100th Air Refueling Wing

RAF MILDENHALL, England – Col. Daniel Merry, 100th Mission Support Group commander, recently took command during a ceremony held here at Hanger 814, June 13, 2012.

Merry is coming to Team Mildenhall from, Headquarters Air Force at the Pentagon, where he was the Deputy Director, Plans and Integration.

Merry enlisted into the Air Force in 1982, as a personnel specialist. In 1987 he left for Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps at Northern Arizona University and earned his commission in 1989.

“I remember I was working construction, when a customer, who was a retired Air Force officer, looked at me and asked what my long term goals in life were,” said Merry. “After a few seconds, I realized I didn’t have any; after a few more minutes speaking with him, I decided it was time for me to speak with a recruiter.”

Merry stated, he is excited and fortunate to be the new commander of the 100th MSG. He went further to say he is ready to be back at work at the base level with a clearly defined and visible mission. He went on to express that he wants to build on the 100th MSG’s current strengths, while reinforcing mission readiness and preparing them for upcoming inspections.

Two big strengths Merry said that he looks for in his airmen are professionalism and pride in everything they do.

“When someone takes that extra initiative and has professionalism and pride in the work that they do, everything else just falls into place,” said Merry.

The minimum requirements that Merry said he expects of airmen; however are that they follow the rules and set good examples such as learning their jobs, passing their physical training test, and caring for their fellow airmen and their families.

“I don’t want my airmen to only know what I expect of them, but what they can also expect of me,” said Merry. “Airmen need to know that I Care, with a capital ‘C’, I will be around to see what they do, and I will listen to what they have to say. This is the exciting part of my job, and it keeps me interested in what they are doing for our mission and for one another.”

Merry said that he hopes his command will be a safe and productive one, and that safety is one of his biggest concerns.

"We all need to be productive and contribute our full efforts if we are to remain the world's best Air Force, though we can have fun along the way,” said Merry. "But for this to work we need to look after one another on and off duty while never leaving an airman behind."

Merry now commands the 100th Air Refueling Wing MSG whose mission is to “provide home station and expeditionary combat support.”
