NORMAN, Okla. – Summer time for kids is filled with many fun activities and numerous sports camps, but recently two children of two Oklahoma Guardsmen received a big surprise when they were chosen to receive a scholarship to attend Kevin Durant’s basketball camp.
“Oh my gosh…,” said Cassidy McCann, of Durant, Okla., and daughter of Maj. Larry Marcy, logistics officer for the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. “I’m, like, a big fan of Kevin Durant, so I was really excited.”
Durant is in his fourth year of sponsoring this camp held on the campus of Oklahoma University. This year was a record attendance of nearly 650 kids ranging from seven to 18.
“This basketball camp is by far the largest we’ve had here,” said Jim Stoll, camp director and founder of ProCamps.
The camp runs for two days and teaches kids the fundamentals of basketball, sportsmanship and at this camp… some of K.D.’s moves.
For the children of several Oklahoma Guardsmen, this opportunity came through donations from the ProCamps Cares scholarship program allowing dependants of the military to attend the camp for free.
“This is a small way to give back to those serving our country,” said Tim Boesken, director of impact programs with ProCamps Worldwide. Boesken works with national partnerships to include the Hatton Foundation, the USO and the Armed Forces Foundation across the U.S. hosting 60 camps every year.
