KMEP 12-7 is conducted annually between the U.S. and ROK militaries and contributes to the security and stability on the Korean Peninsula as well as throughout the entire Asia-Pacific region.
“It is important that we work with our close allies in the Pacific as it allows us to foster the relationship we have with them.” said 1st Lt. Joshua S. Geherty, the executive officer for Headquarters Battery, 12th Marines.
The goal of the program is to improve tactical interoperability of both forces, enhance combined capabilities, and build relationships.
“Working with the ROK Marines will be a good experience,” said Lance Cpl. Natalie Anderson, a radio operator with the regiment. “We will be learning about how they work and they will be learning about how we work. It’s good training and will contribute to overall unit cohesion.”
KMEP 12-7 is carried out in the spirit of the ROK/U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty and underlines the enduring alliance and friendship between the two nations and their combined commitment to the defense of the ROK and peace and security in the region.
