    191st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion

NORTH FORT HOOD, Texas – Soldiers of the 191st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, based out of Fort Douglas, Utah, are enjoying a much deserved four day rest after completing more than two months of training in the Texas sun and heat in preparation for their upcoming deployment to the Middle East.

The Ghost Riders completed their Culminating Training Event on Thursday, wrapping up more than eight months of total training the unit has conducted in order to assume their mission in Kuwait. Soldiers will now have a few days to relax, recharge, and refocus before making a trip across the globe to what they will soon call home for the next few months.

“Everyone here has performed extremely well and left nothing in the tank from this training and exercise,” said Lieutenant Colonel James Groark, 191st CSSB commander. “Take these next few days to put some more fuel in the tank, but remember this fill up has to last you a bit longer the next time out.”

The unit trained on Army Warrior Tasks, sustainment operations, mission command and many other technical skills during their time at Fort Hood. The culminating event took all of the knowledge learned in the past months and combined it into an event based upon missions the unit will soon undertake in theater. The unit received accolades from trainers and other commanders throughout the training and final event, but were warned not to be complacent.

“There is always room to improve your foxhole, “ said Col. Timothy Bush, commander of the 120th Infantry Brigade, the unit responsible for ensuring the 191st is prepared to deploy. “take the things you’ve done well and the things that you can improve, and learn from them and continue to work to get everyone back here.”
The 191st was also visited by several members of Fort Douglas’ 96th Sustainment Brigade, including both the outgoing and incoming brigade commander. Colonel Philip S. Jolly, current 96th SB commander, paid tribute to the soldiers of the unit along with Command Sgt. Maj. Briggs. Jolly nominated for promotion to Brigadier General, praised the soldiers of the 191st CSSB for their hard work and effort to accomplish everything in such a short amount of time. He also took the opportunity to thank everyone and give well-wishes, he is leaving to take command of the U.S. Army Reserve Sustainment Command in Alabama.

His replacement, Lieutenant Kenneth Lawrence, also visited the unit and expressed his gratitude to the soldiers as well. Lawrence is the former commander of the 191st, and just relinquished command to Groark in a ceremony at Fort Douglas in January.
“There are not a lot of you who were in the 191 a year ago,” said Lawrence. “It is truly amazing what you all have done in such a short amount of time. Take care of each other and know that we are anxiously awaiting your arrival back in Salt Lake next spring.”
During the next four days, the soldiers will have the opportunity to see family and friends and say their final goodbyes before departing the continental U.S.

The 191st CSSB will provide command and support of organic and attached units and execute multiple sustainment functions once deployed to the Central Command Area of Operation. The unit is bases out of Salt Lake City, Utah, and is comprised of Soldiers from throughout the Mountain West as well as Texas, New Jersey, Montana, and Michigan.
