CARTHAGE, Tenn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is hosting a dedication ceremony for the newly constructed Cordell Hull Lake Resource Manager’s Office 9 a.m. Friday, July 20. The new facility replaces the previous building destroyed in a fire Sept. 26, 2008. The public and media are invited to the 9 a.m. dedication and an open house following the ceremony from 10 a.m. to noon.
The new $2.6 million facility designed by Ross & Baruzzini and constructed by John J. Kirlin meets the criteria for Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design Silver Certification and complies with U.S. Green Building Council standards. It incorporated the footprint of the former structure and the Corps saved by reusing existing features such as landscaping structures, nearby stone retaining walls, road sections, curbing and the previous entrance.
Environmental features include a LEED compliant standing seam metal roof for extended life, energy savings and durability; energy saving windows that supply natural light to 75 percent of regularly occupied spaces; and an HVAC system that uses a more compliant R-410A refrigerant and a “Smart System” to program temperatures within the building based on occupancy. In addition, low-flow plumbing fixtures were installed for water savings and interior lighting in corridors are controlled by motion sensors.
The 8,200 square-foot building incorporates many energy efficient and sustainable features and amenities not found in the building that burned down in 2008. It includes space for a Visitor’s Center to be opened in the future, and provides needed work spaces necessary for the staff and park rangers to support taking care of the natural resources, recreation areas and campgrounds that are available to the public at Cordell Hull Lake.
The Resource Manager’s Office is located at 71 Corps Lane in Carthage, Tenn. For more information about this event, please call (615) 735-1034.
