FORT MCCOY, Wis. — Spc. Nathan E. Eilenfeldt, a motivated young soldier who entered the Army one year ago, has already placed himself in an elite group by attending the 2012 Army Reserve Best Warrior Competition at Fort. McCoy, Wis.
Eilenfeldt, a combat medic from Butler, Pa., assigned to the 463rd Engineer Battalion, 412th Theater Engineer Command, is very excited about the competition.
“I love being in the competition,” said Eilenfeldt. “It’s a great opportunity to separate myself from others.
The competition gives Eilenfeldt the opportunity to compete against the best from the Army Reserve. It also gives him a chance to do some things other soldiers dream of doing. For example, events like riding in helicopters and shooting different types of weapons.
Eilenfeldt trained hard for this competition with non-commissioned officers in his unit to help prepare.
“I was elated when I was selected to compete in the Best Warrior competition, because it is good training and it gives me something to work toward,” he remarked.
Inspired by Master Chief of the game Halo, Eilenfeldt said he wants to be the best soldier he can. He added he trained hard to be physically fit and he studies his warrior task manual to be tactically sound.
Einfeldt remarked he gets his work ethic and determination from his father, Ray.
“My dad is the most influential person in my life,” said Eilenfeldt.
Though many people influenced Eilenfeldt’s life, he understands this competition means more than just winning.
“A citizen-soldier means being a part of the community while maintaining Army standards,” said Eilenfe
