Zabul leaders, PPC distribute food to ANSF widows for Ramadan
ZABUL, Afghanistan – Members of Afghanistan’s Provincial Peace Council partnered with district leaders and coalition representatives to support the Widow Ramadan Food Distribution Program at the Shah Joy Bazaar, Shah Joy district, July 22.
The Widow Ramadan Food Distribution Program is a charitable effort which provides free food for the families of fallen Afghan National Security Forces.
“The PPC set up a temporary food distribution center in the bazaar and distributed meals for 52 families,” said a coalition representative. “The food distribution was held for families whose primary breadwinners died serving Afghanistan in the Afghan National Army, Afghan Uniformed Police or Afghan Local Police.”
The benevolent distribution was hosted to ensure Shah Joy’s ANSF widows have food for Ramadan.
District Gov. Sediq provided the food and implemented a process to ensure accountability, added the coalition representative. Oversight of the food distribution included a roster to record the names and a thumbprint of all who received free food.
The PPC is responsible for implementation of the Afghan Peace and Reintegration Program, which provides insurgents with an opportunity to peacefully and permanently rejoin their communities with honor, dignity, and forgiveness.
The PPC expressed gratitude for all who supported the program, said the coalition representative.
With former insurgents set to participate in reintegration discussions later in July, officials believe the Widow Ramadan Food Distribution Program will generate credibility and amplify momentum for the PPC in the Shah Joy district.
