CAMP RIPLEY, Minn. – A popular AM radio station from St. Cloud broadcasted live from Camp Ripley for a three-hour period on Wednesday, Aug. 1. The program was broadcast out of the newly renovated “hangar” attached to the Viking Club.

“This was just fantastic,” said Ochsner. “I had no idea how large Camp Ripley is and how much stuff is going on here on a daily basis.”

Ochsner, along with his producer Barry Hein and his photographer Brad Veenstra, spent the entire day at Camp Ripley. They arrived early in the morning to set up for their live broadcast and then went over to Miller Army Airfield to watch a C-130 land that was carrying labor leaders and religious leaders from across the entire state. Once all the groups were assembled, the entire entourage went to view a “live fire” exercise conducted by the 1st Battalion, 151st Field Artillery, commanded by Lt. Col Brian Pfarr.

After the groups received a demonstration of the 777 Howitzer firing, they drove back to the “hangar”, a newly renovated conference center located on Camp Ripley. While at the conference center, the Ox and all assembled received an overview of Camp Ripley. “This is really incredible”, said Ochsner. “I have been to Camp Ripley before, but the presentation showed me so much more of what is going on here.”

When the presentation finished, the Ox and crew made final preparations for the radio show. During his show the Ox interviewed Lt. Col. Brian Pfarr, commander of the 1-151 Field Artillery, Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Harry Sieben, civilian assistant to the secretary of the army, Chaplain (Col.) John Morris – chief of chaplains for the Minnesota National Guard, Maj. Aaron Krenz – chief of deployment cycle support, Annette Kuyper – outreach director for the Minnesota National Guard, Command Sgt. Maj. Doug Wortham, volunteer director for the Minnesota National Guard Youth Camp, Lt. Col Jon Ostercamp, deputy post commander of Camp Ripley and Jeff Thielen, executive director of the Minnesota Military Museum.

The show aired from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and was heard in the St. Cloud area. Videos and pictures from the show may be viewed on the KNSI website or the Camp Ripley Facebook page.
